CONFERENCES

Conferences are the exciting part of MUN, where you put your skills into action! It is in the conferences that politics and international affairs come alive - students can explore conflicts, debate solutions, expound on prevention strategies, and living history. Some will find themselves frantically putting together resolutions to save the lives of refugees in the Mediterranean...

ABOUT US

Model United Nations, or MUN, at St. Francis Xavier is a successful extra-curricular club that provides its members with opportunities to attend conferences and grow as a public speaker and improve skills such as problem-solving, diplomacy, writing and even networking. MUN is a student lead club that focuses on awareness, research, debate and developing resolutions of the world’s most current and urgent issues. To achieve these goals, MUN uses procedures similar to those of the United Nations. At practice sessions (also known as mocks), as well as conferences that occur throughout the school year, all students are assigned as delegates to a country that they represent in a specific committee, such as, Human Rights Council, World Health Organization, UNICEF, etc. In some cases, committees may even focus on entirely fictional universes, such as Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and Avatar: TLA. At conferences, many members from our club have received awards such Best Delegate, Best Position Paper, or Honourable Mention.
